The Wayanad district-level ‘Pravesanolsavam’, the school reopening festival welcoming students to the new academic year, will be held at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Perikkalloor, in Mullankolly grama panchayat on June 1.
Agriculture Minister T. Siddique will be the chief guest. In addition to the district-level event, Pravesanolsavams will also be held at the block panchayat level and in all schools on the day.
Meanwhile, ahead of the reopening of schools, the district administration has intensified preparations to ensure a smooth and safe return for students across the district. A meeting chaired by District Collector D.R. Meghasree reviewed measures being undertaken by various departments.
Local self-government institutions were directed to complete the fitness inspection of school buildings in time, while the Motor Vehicles department (MVD) was instructed to complete the fitness checks of school vehicles before reopening. The Forest department was asked to initiate measures to ensure the safe travel of students in forest-fringe areas vulnerable to wildlife intrusion.
The District Collector also directed Kerala State Electricity Board officials to ensure the safety of electric lines passing through school premises and transformers located near schools.
To support tribal students and prevent dropouts, the Scheduled Tribes Development department will ensure the services of mentor teachers from the initial days of school reopening. General Education department officials and representatives of Local Self-Government institutions will jointly visit schools in the coming days to assess preparedness in each area.
