Several workmen and labour organisations took out marches and public meetings in Mangaluru and Udupi on the occasion of May Day on Friday.

In the public meeting held in Mangaluru, following a march from Ambedkar Circle, CITU District secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal said the Central government has brought in changes to labour acts to do away with 8-hour work rule, which is the primary basis for May Day celebration. The Central government has now brought in 12-hour work rule, which goes against labourers.
