The Congress will hold a brainstorming meeting on Sunday to deliberate on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), after which the State government is expected to outline its formal position on the exercise.
Sources told The Hindu that the party is also likely to write to the Election Commission of India flagging “logical discrepancies” in the SIR process. If the response is not satisfactory, the party is considering legal options, including approaching the apex court.
Congress has called its legislators, former legislators, defeated candidates and senior leaders for the meeting, where the SIR exercise will be discussed in detail. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala are expected to participate, sources said.
Speaking on the discussions held so far, a senior leader said the Cabinet had examined SIR and possible legal options. “The Election Commission has immunity. We discussed whether we can approach the Supreme Court and request it to intervene in finalising the voters’ list. Several aspects of SIR, including those already in the public domain, were discussed,” he said.
