The Karnataka Department of Prisons and Correctional Services on Thursday (April 30) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with R.V. College of Engineering (RVCE) to introduce structured programmes focused on skill development, digital literacy, and technology-enabled training to enhance employability and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for inmates within correctional facilities.

The MoU was signed between Alok Kumar, Director General of Police (Prisons and Correctional Services) and K.N. Subramanya, principal of RVCE. Officials said the initiative reflects a growing emphasis on reformative justice by equipping inmates with practical skills and education to support their transition back into society. As part of the programme, the department will set up two computer labs to provide training for selected inmates in data entry and basic computer courses, which are expected to help them reintegrate into the mainstream workforce after their release.
