With the southwest monsoon approaching, Kozhikode District Collector M.S. Madhavikutty has directed the officials concerned to take urgent measures to prevent waterlogging on major roads in the city and along the National Highway (NH).

The Collector instructed officials to ensure that drainage systems along the NH function without obstruction. Ms. Madhavikutty directed the NH authorities to inspect locations where blockages had been reported and undertake works to ensure smooth water flow on a priority basis. The directions were issued at a meeting chaired by the District Collector to review monsoon preparedness measures on Tuesday (June 2).

She also said that site inspections would be conducted to identify and address waterlogging issues in the city.

The Collector directed that waterlogging issues in Vadakara, Madappally, and Payyoli areas along the Azhiyur–Vengalam stretch of the NH be resolved at the earliest. The NH authorities informed the meeting that the issue in the Madappally area had already been addressed.

The Collector also reviewed waterlogging concerns on major city roads, including the Mananchira–Malaparamba road and Mavoor Road. She directed officials to ensure that drainage systems near the Nadakkavu KSRTC depot, Moffusil bus stand junction, and Eranhipalam are functioning properly.

Officials informed the meeting that rapid response teams and primary response teams under the Forest department are fully prepared to handle emergencies during the monsoon season.
