Members of the Congress party staged a protest in Coimbatore on Friday condemning the Tamil Nadu Governor over the delay in inviting the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to form the government, despite the party emerging as the single largest party in the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly election.

The protest was organised by the Coimbatore District Congress Committee in front of the District Collectorate. More than 50 cadre participated and raised slogans against the Governor.

According to the protesters, TVK had won 108 Assembly constituencies and had staked claim to form the government with the support of other parties. While the Congress had extended support to TVK, the party alleged that the Governor had not yet invited TVK to form the government despite assurances that it would prove its majority on the floor of the Assembly.

They raised slogans seeking the resignation of the Governor if the invitation was not extended.
