The 77 youth from the families displaced for the Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) are waiting for permanent employment in firms that have come up in the MSEZ.
Mahesh Kotian, a member of a displaced family, said he was among the 77 youth who underwent a special three-and-a-half year diploma course in Electrical and Electronics at the Karnataka Polytechnic, Mangaluru. This industry-specific course was sponsored by the MSEZ. They were taken as employees of JBF Petrochemicals Limited, after five months of training. After JBF Petrochemicals Limited was taken over by GAIL-Mangaluru Petrochemicals Limited (GMPL), MP for Dakshina Kannada Capt. Brijesh Chowta intervened, and they continued to work under GMPL for a year.
