Kanniyakumari district bagged fifth position with a pass rate of 97.30% in the state, while Thoothukudi district slipped to 9th place with 96.60% pass rate in the Class X public examination result released on Thursday.

A total of 21,348 students from government, government-aided and matriculation schools from the district appeared for the examination. This includes 10,615 boys and 10,733 girls. Among them, 10, 214 boys and 10,557 girls, totalling 20,771 students, cleared the Class X final examination.

Though the district has slipped from fourth place in the last year to fifth place, the pass rate has improved by an increase of 0.64%.

In terms of government school performance, Kanniyakumari district has recorded a pass rate of 95.71%, securing seventh place in the state. From government schools in the district, 5,876 out of 6,139 students passed the examination.

Meanwhile, the government schools functioning under Adi Dravidar Welfare Department in the district have registered a momentous 100% pass rate and Tribal Welfare Department recorded a 98.5% success rate.

Thoothukudi

In Thoothukudi district a total of 21,762 students from 308 schools in the district appeared for the public examination, of whom 21,022 students cleared the examination. This includes 10,167 boys and 10,855 girls.

The district, which had secured third place in the state with 96.76% in the last year, has slid off to 9th position. However, it is to be noted than 159 schools in the district have recorded a 100% pass rate.

The performance of the government school has led them secure six positions in the state with 95.77%. A total of 5,443 students wrote the examination, and of them 5,213 students have passed.

A 100% pass rate was recorded at 40 government schools in the district.
