Nandyal MP and TDP national general secretary Dr. Byreddy Shabari stated that Nandyal Railway Station has been developed to resemble an airport and affirmed that efforts are underway to further modernise the station. She added that they are working towards providing modern amenities, affordable fares, and safe travel experiences for rail passengers.
Ms. Shabari flagged off the daytime train service from Guntakal to Markapur Road via Nandyal, a long-cherished dream of rail passengers in Nandyal district, in the presence of Sudheshna Sen, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the South Central Railway (Guntur Division), on Tuesday (May 12, 2026).
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Shabari said that the people of Nandyal had submitted petitions requesting a daytime train service from Nandyal towards Guntakal as all existing services run only during the late hours of the night. She said when she took up the issue to the notice of Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, in the Parliament, he assured her that the request would be realised soon and immediately issued directives to railway officials.
Senior officials of the SCR responded swiftly leading to the inauguration of the new train service, she added.
Ms. Shabari said that they have arranged special trains passing through Nandyal to destinations such as Ajmer, Sabarimala, and the Ijtema held in Kadapa. She assured that additional regular train services will be operated via Nandyal based on the wishes of the people.
The MP said that modernisation works at the Nandyal Railway Station are currently underway at a cost of ₹24 crore, and a new railway goods station has been sanctioned for Nandyal.
Ms. Shabari said they have requested the Centre to sanction a “Fit Line” for Nandyal, and expressed confidence that with the efforts of both the Central and State governments—all railway-related issues would be resolved in a phased manner. The MP along with railway officials purchased ticket and travelled for some distance in the train and interacted with the passengers.
