Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Ikram Shariff on Tuesday (June 2) appealed to political parties, their representatives and the general public to cooperate with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to facilitate the preparation of a clean and error-free voters’ list in Kalaburagi district.

Addressing a press conference at his office in Kalaburagi, Mr. Shariff said the Election Commission of India had announced the schedule for the SIR of electoral rolls in Karnataka as part of the third phase of the exercise. The process in Kalaburagi district will commence on June 20.

He said the revision would be undertaken with October 1, 2026, as the qualifying date. Training of election personnel, preparatory activities and printing work will be carried out from June 20 to 29. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door visits and collect information from voters between June 30 and July 29. Rationalisation of polling stations will also be undertaken during the same period.

The draft electoral roll will be published on August 5. Objections and claims will be received from August 5 to September 4. All objections will be disposed of by October 3, following which the final electoral roll will be published on October 7, he said while explaining the SIR calendar.

Mr. Shariff said extensive preparations were being made for the exercise in the district. Kalaburagi district’s electorate comprises 23,73,909 voters spread across nine Assembly constituencies. There are 11,89,398 men, 11,84,171 women and 340 others. A total of 2,400 polling stations have been established across the district.

A BLO has been appointed for every polling station, while 275 BLO supervisors have been designated to oversee the work done by BLOs, he said.

The District Election Officer said political parties had already been instructed to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to assist in booth-wise purification and mapping of electoral rolls. He urged voters to extend full cooperation to BLOs during their household visits.

Mr. Shariff also advised citizens to contact the Electoral Registration Officers concerned in case they had any doubts or queries regarding the SIR process.

To strengthen the revision exercise, voter facilitation centres are being set up at the BLO level to facilitate mapping between the 2022 and 2025 electoral rolls. Directions have also been issued to the Zilla Panchayat CEO to establish voter facilitation centres in rural areas. He said effective coordination between BLOs and BLAs would be crucial for the successful implementation of the exercise.

Zilla Panchayat CEO Rajul Sankanur, Kalaburagi City Corporation Commissioner Avinash Shinde, Additional Deputy Commissioner Rayappa Hunasagi and Assistant Commissioner Sahitya Aladakatti were present at the press conference.
