A complaint alleging that worms were found in food supplied to a conservancy worker under the breakfast scheme in Coimbatore city is being investigated by officials after a video of the incident surfaced.
According to officials, Coimbatore Corporation has around 1,900 permanent workers and 4,650 contract conservancy workers. Breakfast is being provided to workers under a special scheme. The issue came to light after a sanitation worker in Ward 91 at Podanur allegedly found a worm in the food distributed to workers.
Corporation officials said breakfast for conservancy workers deployed across the city’s 100 wards is prepared daily at three locations and distributed through 106 centres.
Officials said an inquiry was under way into the incident reported in Podanur and added that the quality of the food supplied was also being examined. Food samples have been collected and sent for testing, they said.
