Three people from the Hakki-Pikki camp near Shivamogga, who were on a visit to Mozambique, were said to have been stuck in that country after losing essential documents of travel.
Punith Kumar R., State president of the Hakki Pikki Budakattu Sanghatane, told The Hindu on Tuesday that he received information that three people–Milan Kumar, Kavya, and Gambhir–had been stuck in Mozambique.
“They had been in the country for three months. Days before their visa expired, they contacted agents for a renewal. However, the agents who took their documents and money while offering them an extension of the visa are not responding. Now, their visa has expired,” said Mr. Kumar.
He also shared a video message from the people stuck in Mozambique. The person who identified himself as Milan Kumar in the video stated that the three had been on a business trip to Mozambique for the last three months. As many as 10 days before the expiry of their visa, they contacted agents in that country and sought their help to extend it. They also provided the agents with documents and money.
“The agents took our passports and money from us. But now they are not responding to our calls. We cannot go outside our place. We need help from the Indian government,” the video message said.
Mr. Kumar has urged the government and the officials of the Ministry of External Affairs respond to their plea. The Hakki-Pikki people are known for going abroad to sell herbal products. Earlier this year, several from Hakki-Pikki camp at Sadashivapura near Shivamogga were stuck in Ghana.
