The Special Enforcement Squad in charge of three southern districts seized more than 600 LPG cylinders from a location near Attingal in the district, the Civil Supplies Department said on Saturday. According to an official statement, the cylinders were stored without proper authorisation.
The raid was conducted as part of an enforcement drive aimed at curbing black-marketeering and hoarding of LPG cylinders amid the current shortage.
The seized stock included domestic, non-domestic and mini cylinders, according to Mohammed Shafeeq, Special Officer of the LPG War Room. The Special Squad, which covers Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts, also seized five other cylinders stored without authorisation in two hotels.
Further, on Friday night, the police and Civil Supplies officials seized 50 non-domestic LPG cylinders that were being transported without proper documentation in a vehicle. Inspections by the Special Enforcement Squad will continue in the coming days, the Special Officer said.
