Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is set to take place between June 8 and June 12 this year, with the iPhone-maker touting “incredible updates,” new software/developer tools, and AI advances.

WWDC will begin on June 8 at 22:30 IST with the annual keynote, where company leaders usually unveil the latest software updates coming to Apple platforms. This is different from the annual fall event where Apple executives unveil the new iPhone series.

This year’s event is significant as many watchers will be keeping their eyes on John Ternus, the senior vice president of hardware engineering who is set to become Apple’s next CEO as of September this year. Meanwhile, outgoing CEO Tim Cook will transition to the role of Apple’s Executive Chairman.

Apple is under mounting pressure to bring its lagging AI-enhanced Siri back into the Gen AI race; multiple media outlets have reported that the iPhone-maker is looking for new AI partners to beef up Siri’s capabilities, and that its relationship with ChatGPT-maker OpenAI is also reportedly under strain.

During last year’s WWDC event, Apple introduced its novel “Liquid Glass” design concept that delivers a more transparent user interface experience through its buttons and other elements. There were also enhancements made to the company’s Apple Intelligence offering and operating system. Many watchers felt these changes were cosmetic or incremental in nature, when compared to WWDC 2024 when Apple announced its collaboration with OpenAI to enable ChatGPT integration for its users.

Viewers who cannot be at WWDC 2026 in person can instead stream the event on apple.com, the Apple TV app, and the Apple YouTube channel. Meanwhile, on-demand playback is usually made available after the keynote ends.

Other events that will take place at WWDC include video sessions and guides, group labs, Apple design awards, the Platforms State of the Union, and the Swift student challenge.
