The Mysuru City Traffic Police have collected nearly ₹49 lakh in fines and cleared close to 20,000 pending traffic violation cases within the first three days of a special drive offering a 50 per cent concession on traffic fines.

According to the Commissioner of Police, 19,656 traffic violation cases were settled between June 21 and June 23, generating revenue of ₹48,95,400.

The highest collection was recorded on June 22, when 8,337 cases were closed, yielding ₹20,88,300 in fines. On June 21, authorities settled 6,085 cases and collected ₹15,29,950, while 5,234 cases were disposed of on June 23, resulting in collections of ₹12,77,150.

The concession scheme, which began on June 21 and will continue until July 10, applies to traffic e-challan cases registered by the Police Department before May 2026 and to cases booked by the Transport Department between 1991 and 2022.

Official data show that before the launch of the drive, the Mysuru City Police had more than 1.04 crore pending traffic challan cases involving unpaid fines amounting to ₹458.04 crore. The Mysuru district police had an additional 36.73 lakh pending cases with outstanding dues of ₹184.05 crore.

Together, the district accounted for 1.40 crore unresolved traffic violation cases, with cumulative pending fines of ₹642.09 crore.

The Regional Transport Office (East) reported 792 pending cases involving fines of ₹24.12 lakh, while the Hunsur RTO division had 864 pending cases with dues amounting to ₹30.99 lakh. In all, the Transport Department had 1,656 pending cases with unpaid fines totalling ₹55.11 lakh.

Officials said similar concession drives conducted in the past had received a strong response from vehicle owners and helped significantly reduce the backlog of pending traffic cases.
