Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday announced cuts in the Delhi Jal Board’s water and sewer infrastructure charges by 50% for residential properties in E and F category colonies and by 70% in G and H category colonies.

Category E covers lower middle-income areas; F, rural areas; G, resettlement colonies; and H, the Capital’s most underdeveloped settlements.

Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said the system of levying water and sewer infrastructure charges has been simplified and made more transparent. “Plots up to 200 square metres will remain exempt, with no scope for unnecessary measurements or harassment by officials,” he said.

Mr. Singh said infrastructure charges have reduced from ₹15-16 lakh to about ₹2-3 lakh in many cases, calling it a major relief for the middle class and homeowners.

Infrastructure charges are levied on new water or sewer connections and on additional construction on existing structures, subject to certain exemptions.

The CM said residential units measuring up to 50 sq m, built on plots larger than 200 sq m, will receive an additional 50% concession after applying category-based reduction benefits. This would effectively lower the final payable amount for eligible smaller dwelling units, she said.

Religious institutions and charitable organisations will also be eligible for a 50% concession.

Redevelopment projects that do not increase water demand will not attract these charges.
