Railway Protection Force (RPF) of South Western Railways has cracked down on illegal railway e-ticket booking activities in Mysuru and Hassan.
In an anti-touting operation at Mysuru, a person involved in illegal railway e-ticket booking was identified based on information received from the Cyber Cell of RPF Bengaluru. “During the enquiry, 21 railway e-tickets and a mobile phone, together valued at ₹66,591, were detected and seized,” said a press statement here on Thursday, adding that necessary legal proceedings had been initiated.
In another case, RPF Hassan conducted a raid at a travel agency in Hassan under Operation Upalabdh, an initiative to curb illegal ticket touting, and detected illegal railway e-ticket booking activities using a personal IRCTC ID. “Railway tickets, electronic devices and other related materials valued at ₹83,837 were seized and legal action had been initiated,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the RPF has conducted several operations and awareness drives to ensure passenger safety, security and vigilance across railway premises, the statement said.
Under ‘Operation Amanat’, a wallet containing cash and important cards, misplaced by a passenger in Train No. 11311, Coach B2, was safely recovered by RPF staff at Hassan Railway Station and later handed over to the complainant’s brother after proper verification.
Similarly, under ‘Operation Satark’, the RPF staff detected an abandoned suspicious polythene bag in Train No. 17310 near Shivani Railway Station. On inspection by Excise officials, the bag was found to contain eight bottles of illicit liquor totalling 8.5 litres valued at ₹4,475. The liquor bottles were seized for further action, the statement said.
Under ‘Samay Palan’, one unauthorised passenger was detected pulling the alarm chain in Train No. 16222 Mysuru–Talaguppa Express at Birur Railway Station, causing a delay of two minutes to the train movement. Necessary action has been taken in this regard.
Under ‘Jan Jagaran’, RPF staff at Shivamogga Railway Station conducted a special awareness drive among passengers regarding the dangers of carrying inflammable articles during train journeys and within railway premises. Passengers were advised to avoid carrying such hazardous materials for safe travel, the statement said.
