London, June 22: The World Migration Conference was opened at Holborn restaurant to-day when 150 delegates were present.
Mr. Thomas was unable to attend and Mr. Martens (Belgium) presided.
Mr. Brown one of the Secretaries of the International Federation of Trade Unions emphasised that this was the first time emigration had been the sole subject of a Labour World Congress. He pointed out that migrants from Europe during the five years ending 1924 were under three and a half millions compared with seven millions in the five years ended in 1913, the decline chiefly being due to restrictions on immigration. He referred to the importance of the silent penetration of Asia by the Chinese and also the movement of African natives to mining and agricultural centres.
