The Telangana Prisons and Correctional Services Department on Tuesday released 91 life convicts who were granted special remission by the State government, while also extending employment and rehabilitation support to facilitate their reintegration into society.
The released inmates include 85 men and six women who were found eligible for remission under government guidelines.
As part of the rehabilitation programme, 38 of the released prisoners have been offered employment at fuel retail outlets operated by the Prisons Department. Officials said the initiative is intended to provide immediate livelihood support and help former inmates transition smoothly into mainstream society.
The remaining 53 released prisoners have indicated their intention to pursue self-employment, agriculture, family businesses and other occupations after their release.

Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, Soumya Mishra, said the release marked the beginning of a new phase in the lives of these former prisoners and underscored the correctional system’s focus on reformation and rehabilitation.
She said the released inmates had earned the opportunity through good conduct, discipline and their commitment to reform during incarceration. She urged them to lead law-abiding lives and contribute positively to the society.
The official said that the department had been working to transform prisons into centres of correction, skill development and rehabilitation through education, vocational training, counselling and employment-oriented programmes. She emphasised that post-release support was critical to ensuring successful reintegration.
Senior prison officials and family members of the released prisoners attended the programme. Officials said the department would continue its efforts to support reformed prisoners and provide opportunities for them to rebuild their lives with dignity.
