In an effort to keep key waterbodies in the city- the K-C Canal and the Handri Neeva clean and garbage-free, the Kurnool Municipal Corporation (KMC) has undertaken an extensive sanitation drive.
Recently, Kurnool MLA and Industries and Commerce Minister T.G. Bharath Gupta, along with Panyam MLA Gouru Charitha, and Collector Dr. A. Siri, directed Corporation officials to keep the waterbodies clean. Acting on these instructions, KMC Commissioner Challa Obulesu inspected the K-C Canal and Handri Neeva river areas and asked officials to take immediate remedial action.
With the help of earthmovers, the Corporation has begun removing accumulated waste and sewage from the K-C Canal. Dedicated sanitation workers have been deployed to clean the steps leading to the canal and surrounding areas.
Additionally, the river banks and its surrounding areas have been illuminated, and workers have been stationed to ensure ‘unsanitary conditions’ do not recur.
The Corporation has also taken up a massive exercise to remove garbage accumulated over the past months from the Handri River, particularly opposite the Anand Talkies Complex.
