Vigilance Court in Thrissur has sentenced a former assistant engineer of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹25,000 in a bribery case.

The convicted, K. Sasi, 65, a native of Thazhava in Kollam and former assistant engineer at the Kunnamkulam KSEB office, was found guilty of accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 from a building owner in Chavakkad.

The case dates back to 2014, when the complainant had applied for additional power load for a private banking establishment functioning in his building. Sasi allegedly demanded and accepted the bribe to process the connection. He was caught red-handed by the Thrissur Vigilance unit while receiving the amount.

Thrissur Vigilance Court judge K.M. Ratheesh delivered the verdict on June 20, 2026. The accused was later remanded to Viyyur Central Jail.

The investigation was led by Vigilance officials, including DySP Jyothish Kumar and DySP A. Ramachandran, while Public Prosecutor V.K. Shailajan appeared for the Vigilance.
