Tirunelveli district police removed caste related markings at 63 locations in the district on Sunday, with the support of revenue department and local bodies.
As a preventive measure to avoid caste-related conflicts in Tirunelveli district, the police have been taking various initiatives. Awareness meetings are being conducted among the general public and school students. During these sessions, police officials explain the consequences faced by individuals involved in caste clashes and criminal activities and advise them to focus on education and follow a constructive path.
Under the instructions of Tirunelveli SP Prasanna Kumar, special drives are being carried out across the district to remove caste related identifiers displayed in public.
Accordingly caste related colour markings, symbols found on electrical poles, bus stops, bridges, public walls and water tanks across the district are being identified, documented and removed without delay.
As part of this initiative, caste markings were removed at 63 locations in the district.
