The Sullia police seized about 60 tonnes of illegally extracted river sand in Todikana village of Sullia taluk on Friday. The police have booked a case against Manu Permude and Anthony.
In a press note, the police said, on a tip off, a team led by Police sub-inspector B.P. Santosh raided a place in Shettiyadka in Todikana village where about 60 tonnes of river sand was found. On inquiry, it was found that Manu Permuda and Anthony have extracted the sand without taking necessary permission from the government. They have stocked the sand at a place from where the accused were trying to load it to different lorries and sell the sand.
The police seized the sand worth ₹1.2 lakh. A case was registered against the accused under Section 303(2) (theft), Sections 4(1) and 21 of Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulations) Act 1957, and Sections 3 and 44 of Karnataka Mines Minerals Concession Rules 1994, the police said.
