Continuing its crackdown on an international cyber slavery and human trafficking network involved in sending job aspirants to cyber scam compounds in Cambodia, the State Cyber Crime Wing arrested another accused linked to the organised trafficking syndicate.

The accused, identified as Syed Hussain, 37, of Wallajah in Vellore district, was allegedly functioning as a local facilitator and intermediary, recruiting victims from Tamil Nadu for overseas placement in cyber scam operations in Cambodia.

The police said Syed Hussain was in regular contact with overseas handlers and coordinated the recruitment and movement of Indian nationals to Cambodia through Malaysia and Thailand. Acting on the instructions of the overseas operatives, he allegedly targeted job seekers by luring them with promises of lucrative employment opportunities abroad.

The police said that the accused facilitated the travel arrangements of a victim from Tirupathur district. He allegedly coordinated communication between the victim and the overseas recruiters through WhatsApp calls and video calls, shared flight tickets, accompanied the victim to Chennai airport, and assisted in arranging onward travel to Cambodia via Malaysia and Bangkok.

Investigators further found that the accused received commission payments through bank transfers and digital payment platforms for facilitating the recruitment. The police said the victim was later trafficked to a cyber scam compound in Cambodia, where Indian nationals were allegedly forced to engage in online financial fraud and cyber scam activities under coercive conditions amounting to cyber slavery.

Based on the evidence collected during the probe, Syed Hussain was arrested and examined in connection with the case. Officials said digital evidence, financial transaction details, and communication records are currently being analysed as part of the ongoing investigation.

Further investigation is under way to identify more victims, recruitment agents, financial beneficiaries, and international operatives linked to the organised cyber slavery and cyber fraud syndicate operating across Cambodia and other south-east Asian countries.
