The Karnataka police have issued a strict directive to all its units across the State, warning against unauthorised vehicle inspections by personnel lacking legal authority, following complaints of harassment and misuse of power.
The move comes after a complaint by Mohan Kumar Danappa, a member of the Karnataka State Police Complaints Authority, who highlighted instances of home guards, armed police and personnel below the rank of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) allegedly stopping vehicles, intimidating motorists, and collecting money illegally.
