“Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) over alleged violence, obstruction of medical services and damage to property during an ongoing protest by outsourced employees at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Greater Noida,” officials said on Thursday (June 25, 2026).

The case was registered on the complaint of GIMS Director Brig (Dr.) Rakesh Gupta following unrest at the institute, where outsourced employees have been staging an indefinite protest since June 15, demanding regularisation of their services.

According to the police, repeated efforts were made by the administration on Wednesday (June 24, 2026) to persuade the protesters to shift their demonstration away from the hospital's main entrance and hall to ensure the smooth functioning of medical services.

However, some protesters allegedly refused to relocate and became aggressive. Police claimed that external individuals and members of various organisations were also called to the site, where they allegedly threatened staff, used abusive language and attempted to break open a gate. “The commotion occurred inside the hospital's main building,” the police said.

Officials said that when some employees agreed to move to another location within the campus, others, along with outsiders, allegedly engaged in pushing and scuffling, prompting police intervention.

The police alleged that institute staff were abused, assaulted and threatened, while government property was damaged.

“The incident also disrupted treatment of patients, including critically ill cases, and affected law and order,” they said.

Based on Dr. Gupta's complaint, an FIR was registered for obstructing official duties, damaging government property, disrupting medical services and creating a law-and-order situation.

In a video statement, Dr. Gupta denied allegations of a police lathi-charge or injuries to protesters.

"Some videos are circulating claiming that a lathi-charge was carried out or that protesters were injured, but it is not true. Some are trying to defame the institution," he said, urging employees to return to work so that patient care could continue uninterrupted.

Meanwhile, some hospital staff alleged that the electricity supply and CCTV cameras at the protest site were switched off late at night and that the main and emergency gates were closed, leading to confusion among people present there.

The police said outpatient and other medical services are now functioning smoothly following the departure of some protesters and outside supporters.
