Two DMK councillors submitted petition to Deputy Mayor K.R. Raju during the weekly grievances redress meeting held on Tuesday seeking the urban civic body’s immediate action against the unauthorised hoardings and the banners and to restore regular drinking water supply.
DMK councillor of ward 39 P. Seetha, in her petition, said the commercial establishments, without getting any permission from the Corporation, had kept hoardings and flexible banners in almost every electric pole and other places in her ward to advertise either their products or services.
Besides hampering the free movement of the public, the unauthorised hoardings and the banners erected on the electric poles prevent the workers from fitting new bulbs. And, the unauthorised hoardings kept atop the buildings and the public places cause accidents due to the heavy wind lashing during this season.
Hence, the unauthorised hoardings and the banners erected in ward 39 should be removed by the Corporation authorities, Ms. Seetha said.
Another DMK councillor V. Jeganathan of ward 5 said the erratic drinking water supply to Thimmarajapuram, Kakkan Nagar, Police Quarters, Venkateswara Nagar, Anna Nagar, Rahmath Nagar and Kakkan Nagar New Colony had agitated the residents, who were prepared to stage protests. Hence, the Corporation should take immediate steps for supplying drinking water regularly to these areas.
Residents of Thoppu Theru in Thatchanallur submitted a petition seeking either repairing or relaying of the road riddled with potholes for the past 15 years. Since the public coming to the ration shop had to use this road, the Corporation should at least repair the road, the petitioners said.
The residents of Melakkarai New Colony in Thatchanallur Zone and Rajajipuram in Tirunelveli Zone also submitted a petition with similar appeal.
On behalf of the Sadakathullah Appa College, its correspondent Fathu Rabbani submitted a petition seeking the relaying of the road connecting the 52-year-old institution and the Tiruchendur Main Road. “Since this badly damaged road is being used by over 3,500 students and the faculty members everyday, the Corporation should relay the road to avert accidents,” Mr. Rabbani said.
