A team of senior officials of the Highways Department inspected the construction of the road over bridge (ROB) across the level crossing on Cauvery Road near Town Railway Station in Tiruchi on Wednesday as part of an internal audit.
The ROB is coming up across the level crossing (LC 249) situated between Srirangam and Town Railway Stations on Tiruchi-Chennai Chord Line in the city. The ROB is being built by the Projects Wing of the Highways Department and the Railways on a 50:50 cost sharing basis. The State government sanctioned ₹23.45 crore for the project.
J. Elamvazhuthi, Superintending Engineer, Highways, Construction and Maintenance, Tiruchi, inspected the progress of work on the ROB as part of the internal audit of the works executed in the Tiruchi Projects Division.
R. Poongodi, Divisional Engineer, Highways, Projects, internal audit officers, R. Rajasekar, Divisional Engineer (H), C&M, and assistant divisional engineers, assistant engineers and quality control officials were present.
Mr. Elamvazhuthi instructed the officers to expedite the work and complete the ROB within the scheduled period.
About 40% of the works have been completed so far and the ROB is expected to be ready by December, sources in the department said.
