A committee comprising experts, technocrats, entrepreneurs and workers representatives in the fireworks units would be established soon to prevent accidents in the fireworks industry, said Minister Keerthana here on Friday.

Speaking to media persons, she said that the fatal accidents had to be prevented and problems in the fireworks sector would be discussed threadbare by the stakeholders in the committee. The objective of forming such a task force would primarily be to save lives and prevent accidents.

Admitting that there were problems in the sector, she however, said that they could be discussed and solutions found. Every issue has a way out and the TVK government headed by C. Joseph Vijay would keep its promises to the people.

The Minister also indicated that a meeting with the fireworks units association office-bearers would be convened soon and that officials from various departments would participate. When asked about the shortage of officers in PESO, Ms Keerthana said, “everything would be discussed,” and a report will be given to the Chief Minister for further directions.

On the continuation of the welfare schemes for the women beneficiaries, which were introduced by the previous government, the Minister said that the TVK government has just stepped in. “Our leader is examining the modalities with the officials,” she said. Asked about the portfolio allocation, she replied, it will all be done shortly.

Virudhunagar District Collector N. O. Sukhaputra welcomed the Minister in the presence of Superintendent of Police Srinatha. Senior officers from various departments also participated. The TVK functionaries from the district presented shawls and flowers to the new Minister. A review meeting was held and the Minister said that the TVK government was keen to uplift the needy people’s lifestyle and appealed to the officials to cooperate in achieving the goals in public interest.
