One person was killed and five others were injured in a blast caused by an air-conditioner outdoor unit at a restaurant in Thanjavur on Monday.
According to the police, the blast occurred in the afternoon when the air-conditioner mechanic, Ganesan, 43, of Nanjikottai Road, Thanjavur, was engaged in refilling gas in the outdoor unit, causing grievous injuries to him.
Two persons, Raviraj, 27, and Arunkumar, 26, employees of the multinational fried chicken restaurant chain outlet functioning at the Marys’ Corner area, were injured.
Apart from these, three persons, online food delivery chain service providers – Kathiresan, 24, Prem, 26, and Ajithkumar, 22 – who were waiting nearby for their orders, were injured.
All the injured were rushed to the Thanjavur Medical College and Hospital for treatment, where Raviraj died, the police said. The Thanjavur South Police have taken up the case for investigation.
