The Hyderabad Police rule out the role of mangoes as cause for the death of two sisters in Narayanguda. It was initially suspected that consumption of mangoes purchased from a roadside vendor led to their death. Now, the police say they are awaiting the autopsy report to determine the exact cause.

Narayanguda Police Inspector M. Saideshwar said the vendor was questioned as part of the enquiry. “The roadside vendor had sold mangoes to several customers and no similar complaints had been reported. Based on the investigation so far, the mangoes are being ruled out as the cause of the deaths,” the officer said.

The police added that the mangoes were consumed two days before the death of the first victim. A preliminary assessment indicates multiple organ failure. The Narayanguda Police have registered a suspicious death case and are continuing the investigation.

The incident came to light after 17-year-old Bhuvaneshwari, and her younger sister 14-year-old Sandhya, reportedly consumed mangoes on Sunday (June 7, 2026). Later in the evening, both fell ill, complaining of vomiting and stomach-related problems. Their parents rushed them to a hospital for treatment. Bhuvaneshwari died while undergoing treatment on Monday, while Sandhya succumbed on Tuesday.

Following the deaths, the parents approached the police and lodged a complaint. Investigators initially suspected food poisoning and began examining all possible causes. The officer said postmortem examinations had been conducted and report is expected to identify the exact cause of death.
