A group of serving and retired railway employees are rendering service to rail passengers braving the soaring temperatures. These volunteers stationed at various railway stations and key transit points distribute drinking water to exhausted travellers and pilgrims. The initiative takes on a spiritual dimension at the revered Simhachalam shrine, where the retired staff members coordinate an extensive food distribution programme.
Their daily cycle begins in the early hours with the preparation of traditional meals such as pulihora, pongali, and refreshing buttermilk. This labour of love continues through the peak heat of the afternoon as they serve the public, concluding only after the facilities are cleaned and prepared for the following day.
