The BJP’s Telangana unit has urged the State government to immediately constitute special teams comprising District Collectors and Agriculture Department officials to assess crop damage caused by unseasonal rains, and to ensure prompt compensation to affected farmers, especially those owning mango orchards.

Speaking to the media at the party’s State office here on Wednesday, after inducting new members, BJP State president N. Ramchander Rao expressed deep anguish over the damage caused by heavy overnight rains. He also raised concern over paddy stocks at procurement centres getting soaked due to last night’s rain, blaming administrative lapses.

Describing the situation as evidence of “government inefficiency”, Mr. Rao pointed to the lack of tarpaulins, inadequate warehouse facilities, poor execution of procurement operations, and the burden of porterage charges allegedly imposed on farmers in the current agriculture season.

Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 12-year governance record, Mr. Rao criticised the Congress and BRS for what he termed “destructive ideologies”. He claimed that senior BJP leaders such as Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K. Advani, even while in Opposition, had refrained from criticising the nation itself, focusing instead on policy critique. In contrast, he alleged, Congress leaders have criticised India while abroad, “disparaging the country’s democracy and culture”.

Assurance yatra

Meanwhile, the BJP’s ongoing ‘Farmers’ Distress – BJP Assurance Yatra’, led by Legislative Party leader Aleti Maheswar Reddy, reached Manthani in Peddapalli district on the third day. Mr. Reddy, along with party leaders like MP Eatala Rajender, strongly criticised the government for failing to initiate procurement operations over the past 30 days, leading to crop accumulation at collection centres.

They alleged that farmers are facing severe distress due to shortages of gunny bags, labour, weighing scales and grain-cleaning machines. Mr. Rajender further accused the government of filing “illegal cases” against protesting farmers in Kataram, claiming this had adversely affected their livelihoods. Mr. Maheswar Reddy also expressed outrage over alleged discrepancies in official procurement figures, stating that ground realities tell a different story.
