Police arrested three persons allegedly involved in a series of truck battery theft cases in Vedayapalem police station limits in Nellore. They seized 14 batteries and a car worth ₹1.45 lakh from the accused.
According to the police, Chintagunta Venkateswarlu (19) and Pari Narasimhulu (21) from Thalpagiri Colony in Nellore Rural mandal, and Ilaganur Srinivasulu from Kovur were reportedly addicted to vices and had become accustomed to battery thefts to earn easy money.
They allegedly committed a series of thefts targeting batteries of lorries parked for repair in Autonagar area. In the wake of the recent increase in lorry battery thefts in the district, Superintendent of Police Ajitha Vejendla instructed the police personnel to investigate the matter.
Under the supervision of Nellore Town Assistant Superintendent of Police(ASP) Deeksha, a surveillance team was formed and they took up the investigation. On May 8, (Friday) afternoon, the three accused were caught while allegedly stealing two lorry batteries.
The SP congratulated Vedayapalem police for their swift action in the case, arresting the accused and recovering the stolen property.
