District Revenue Officer (DRO) K. Mohan Kumar on Saturday said that Chittoor district has 13,40,126 registered voters as of Saturday (June 20), adding that select polling stations would be rationalised to improve voter access and convenience.

Addressing representatives of political parties at the Collectorate here, Mr. Mohan Kumar said that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was being conducted as per the schedule of the Election Commission of India. “The exercise will help remove bogus and deceased voters and prepare a transparent electoral roll,” he said. He also appealed to the representatives to cooperate with the officials in this process and report suspected bogus or deceased entries.

He said that Booth Level Officers had been sensitised on the process and urged political parties to verify rolls through their Booth Level Agents.

“Chittoor district presently has 1,511 polling stations, while 1,708 have been proposed. Centres will be planned to limit voter travel, generally within 2 kilometres, and ensure water, electricity, ramps and adequate space. Shifts are proposed at Thallapalle, Kommaramadugu, Govindapuram and Suddulakuppam due to safety, accessibility and infrastructure concerns,” the DRO said.
