Garbage dumped along the Kavundapadi Road near Perunthalaiyur in Erode has raised concerns among residents and road users where coconut trees and other crops are cultivated.
Plastic bags, discarded ropes and other waste materials were found strewn along the roadside. According to motorists, a substantial portion of the waste appeared to have originated from commercial establishments. “These are not household waste, but waste dumped by shopkeepers,” a motorist said. Old household articles and other domestic waste were also found among the garbage dumped on the stretch.
Residents said the indiscriminate dumping of waste was affecting the appearance of the area, which is surrounded by greenery and farmland. They expressed concern that the waste could lead to environmental pollution and affect nearby agricultural lands, if not removed at the earliest.
Road users pointed out that the accumulation of waste along the roadside presented an unsightly scene and sought regular monitoring of the area to prevent further dumping. They urged the local body to clear the waste and initiate measures to identify and act against those responsible for dumping garbage on the roadside.
