Karimnagar jewellery heist mastermind remanded in judicia...
The Hindu Bureau · 2026-05-29 · via The Hindu: Latest News today from India and the World, Breaking news, Top Headlines and Trending News Videos.

Bihar-based gangster Subodh Singh, the alleged mastermind behind the sensational armed robbery at PMJ Jewellers in Karimnagar on May 3, was taken into custody by the Karimnagar police on a Prisoner Transit (PT) warrant in Bihar on Thursday.

He was brought to Karimnagar from Purnia jail in Bihar, where he was lodged in connection with six criminal cases, amid tight security arrangements on Thursday night.

According to the police, Subodh Singh was produced before the Magistrate in Karimnagar around Thursday midnight and remanded in judicial custody.

Three members of Subodh Singh gang, including the prime accused in the May 3 gold jewellery heist case, Raghunath Karmakar of West Bengal, were already arrested by the Karimnagar Police on May 14.

Police are on the lookout for the remaining accused in the sensational case.

The armed robbers opened fire at the employees of the jewellery shop when they tried to resist the robbery, before decamping with stolen booty worth ₹82.02 lakh.

Four employees sustained non-fatal bullet injuries while trying to overpower robbers in an exemplary act of bravery.

According to sources, the interstate gang was allegedly involved in a string of robbery and other criminal cases in Bihar, West Bengal and various other States.

A petition was filed in Karimnagar court seeking the custody of the accused (Subodh Singh) for questioning in connection with the PMJ jewellery robbery case, Karimnagar Police Commissioner Gaush Alam said in a statement issued here on Friday.

Further investigation into the robbery case is underway.
