In a major step to streamline pilgrim flow, Devaswom Minister K. Muraleedharan has announced the introduction of a virtual queue system at the Sreekrishna Temple, Guruvayur, on a trial basis. The initiative aims to ensure a smoother and more comfortable darshan experience for devotees.
Speaking to the media at Guruvayur on Monday (June 15, 2026) after a high-level review meeting held in the presence of Devaswom board members and department heads, the Minister said modern facilities would be introduced to transform Guruvayur, Sabarimala, and Kottiyoor into world-class pilgrimage centres.
Master plan
As part of the temple’s comprehensive development plan, a master plan will be prepared and land acquisition procedures will be expedited. The Minister directed officials to complete the acquisition of land required for development within nine months, assuring that any hurdles would be resolved through discussions. The overall development is expected to take shape within three years.
Mr. Muraleedharan also made it clear that no temple land would be lost under any circumstances. “Not even a small piece of Guruvayurappan’s land will be allowed to be taken away,” he asserted, adding that encroached temple land would be reclaimed.
To address issues at the Goshala at Vengad, an expert committee will be formed. Plans are also under way to convert the historic Punnathur Kovilakam in the Anakkotta into a heritage monument. Measures will be taken to improve facilities for temple elephants, including expert treatment for ailments such as foot diseases.
Devaswom Chairman A.V. Gopinath, Revenue Devaswom Secretary M.G. Rajamanikyam, board members, District Collector Shikha Surendran (holding additional charge as administrator of Guruvayur Devaswom), and other officials attended the meeting.
