YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday expressed concern over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, and asked party cadres to remain vigilant during the voter verification process, while also directing leaders to prepare aggressively for the upcoming local body elections.

Addressing a meeting of party regional coordinators, district presidents, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and constituency coordinators at the party central office in Tadepalli, Mr. Jagan warned that any unanimous local body election in favour of rivals would be treated as a failure of the local party in-charge.

Referring to recent elections in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, he alleged that large-scale deletion of votes during SIR had adversely affected the opposition parties in those States.

“Nearly 91 lakh votes have been removed in West Bengal and 74 lakh votes in Tamil Nadu,” he said, and asked party workers to closely monitor the voter verification process in Andhra Pradesh to ensure that genuine YSRCP supporters were not deleted.

Mr. Jagan alleged that bogus votes existed in certain constituencies, including Kuppam, and instructed party leaders to carefully scrutinise electoral rolls at the booth and village levels.

The YSRCP chief also announced a State-wide protest from June 4 to 12 against the “two years of betrayal and destructive rule” of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and the Telugu Desam Party-led NDA government.

During the meeting, Mr. Jagan released a booklet titled, ‘Vennupotuku Rendu Ellu’ (Two Years of Betrayal), accusing the government of failing to implement major election promises under the Super Six schemes. He directed party workers to ensure that the booklet reached every household.

He accused the government of abandoning welfare promises relating to financial assistance for women, unemployment allowance for youth and pension schemes, while also criticising rising petrol and diesel prices in the State.

As part of the protest programme, the YSRCP would organise demonstrations at mandal headquarters on June 4, town hall meetings at constituency centres on June 8 and 9, and massive rallies on June 12.
