With the celestial wedding of Goddess Sri Meenakshi with Lord Sundareswarar to be performed on April 28 (Tuesday) and subsequent major event of Lord Kallazhagar entering the Vaigai river on May 1, the Corporation of Madurai is fully geared to tackle the large turnout of devotees expected to witness the celebrations.
Speaking to The Hindu on Saturday, Corporation Commissioner Chitra Vijayan said that they had prepared an elaborate plan involving multiple wings for the festival.
Like last year, from the time the Lord Kallazhagar entered Madurai city limits, the civic body officials have planned to deploy a chunk of workers to closely follow the deity (Lord Kallazhagar) and ensure that the garbage was cleared then and there left by the devotees on roadside.
