Minister A. Namassivayam, on Monday (May 25, 2026), said decisions on Cabinet expansion, allocation of portfolios to Ministers and appointment of nominated MLAs in the Puducherry Legislative Assembly will be taken up soon by the BJP national leadership in consultation with Chief Minister N. Rangasamy.

Speaking to reporters in Puducherry, he said expansion of the Union Territory’s Cabinet and allocation of portfolios to Ministers will happen soon. Referring to the electoral performance of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the Union Territory, Mr. Namassivayam said the party contested in all the 30 seats and secured 17% vote share while the BJP contested 10 seats and secured 12% vote share.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has been re-elected and the Union Territory’s development will continue, he said, adding the NDA will win the bye-election to Thattanchavady Assembly constituency.

Mr. Namassivayam said the President had sanctioned a second India Reserve Battalion for Puducherry. This will enhance the strength of the force by 1,007 personnel, providing employment opportunities for the local youth. The Puducherry police is set to receive the President’s Colours and this is a proud moment for the entire force, he said
