The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for seven districts in Kerala warning of isolated heavy rains. The alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Wayanad and Kannur, where rains in the range of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is likely during the next 24 hours.

According to the weather bulletin issued by the IMD, a trough runs from South interior Karnataka to the Gulf of Mannar across Tamil Nadu at 0.9 km above mean sea level. This is likely to draw more moisture from the sea, triggering summer thundershowers for the five days. Meanwhile, many places in the State witnessed heavy rains during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Friday. Palode in Thiruvananthapuram recorded the highest rainfall with 120 mm followed by Thennala in Malappuram with 70 mm.
