U.S. judge strikes down Trump’s $100,000 H-1B visa fee, calls it unlawful

A federal judge on Monday (June 8, 2026) struck down a $100,000 ​fee that U.S. President Donald Trump imposed ‌on new H-1B visas for highly skilled ​foreign workers, concluding that it constituted ⁠an unlawful tax that Congress never authorised. U.S. District Judge Leo Sorokin in Boston issued the ruling in ‌a lawsuit filed by 20 Democratic state attorneys general challenging a fee Mr. Trump ‌announced in September that dramatically raised ‌the ⁠cost of obtaining H-1B visas.

8 dead, 6 critical after explosion at Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited plant

Eight workers were killed and six were injured in an explosion at the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) plant in Visakhapatnam on Monday (June 8, 2026), officials said. The blast triggered a massive fire at the facility and led to the spilling of hundreds of tonnes of molten steel, they added.

24 Indian sailors rescued from ship hit by U.S. missile

Twenty four Indian seafarers were rescued from tanker Marivex, a ship sanctioned by the U.S. for Iran links, off the south-eastern coast of Oman on Monday (June 8, 2026), after a U.S. missile strike. The sailors sent distress messages to a Forward Seamen’s Union of India (FSUI) office-bearer that the U.S. Navy had attacked the ship’s engine room. Audio messages purported to be from the seafarers to Manoj Yadav, general secretary of FSUI, received at 2 p.m. 

INDIA bloc to take SIR complaints to CJI; seeks Pradhan’s immediate exit

The INDIA bloc will write to the Chief Justice of India, flagging concerns over the special intensive revision (SIR) and the alleged ‘vote loot’. It also demanded the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, stating that he had “presided over the betrayal of lakhs of youth who appeared for NEET and CBSE exams”

BGB delegation arrives in India for border talks with BSF

The Director General (DG) of the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) arrived in Delhi on Monday to participate in the first round of the biannual DG-level talks with the Border Security Force (BSF). The talks, scheduled to continue till June 11, are taking place against the backdrop of tensions between the two border-guarding forces over allegations by Bangladesh that the BSF has been sending undocumented Bangladeshis across the border through multiple land entry points.
