The Manur police rounded up three minors, who allegedly lobbed Molotov cocktail on a police outpost on Monday night, to “teach a lesson” to the police.
The Manur police, during the routine vehicle check on Monday evening, intercepted three teens riding a two-wheeler. After seizing the two-wheeler, the police asked the three, who did not have a valid driving licence, to bring their parents to the police station and take the two-wheeler, the police said.
However, they prepared Molotov cocktail and lobbed it on the police outpost at Ramayanpatti on Tirunelveli–Sankarankovil Road in the midnight. No one was injured in the attack.
After identifying the attackers with the help of CCTV footages, the police on Tuesday picked up the teenagers, who were reportedly inebriated. The three were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board in the evening before being taken to the Government Observation Home.
When the police took action against three persons during vehicle check at Thatchanallur a couple of years ago, the Thatchanallur police station came under petrol bomb attack.
As the second death anniversary of rowdy Deepak Raja, a supporter of slain Scheduled Caste leader C. Pasupathi alias Pasupathi Pandian of Mela Alangarathattu in Thoothukudi district, was observed on Tuesday, police are investigating if the attack was orchestrated by the teens on a police outpost to prove their supremacy.
