In a property dispute, a son and his family members assaulted his mother, M. Lakshmi (55) near Peraiyur using wooden log. Lakshmi’s son M. Saravanakumar (32) who intervened also sustained bleeding injuries.

The police said that Lakshmi’s husband, Muthulsevlam of Meiyanoothampatti had mortaged his land while borrowing ₹6.5 lakh for agricultural expenses in the past.

However, after Muthuselvan’s death, Sundaraj, the eldest son, objected to Inbaraj occupying the mortaged land. Meanwhile, his brothers, Kamaraj and Saravanakumar said that they had no objection to Inbaraj’s claim.

Meanwhile, when Lakhmi was working on her land on May 7, Sundaraj, his wife, Pandiammal and son Pounraj, came there and and abused her in filthy language. They also attacked her with wooden logs. The woman sustained bleeding injuries on her hands and legs.

Lakshmi’s son, who is a sick person, tried to intervene and prevent the attack on her mother.

However, Sundaraj and his family members, attacked him too.

Both the injured have been admitted to the Government Medical College hospital in Virudhunagar.

Saptur Police have registered a case of assault and under the provisions of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act.
