Alappuzha, long considered a Left Democratic Front (LDF) stronghold, delivered a reality check in this election as the front was reduced to just three of the nine Assembly constituencies in the district.
Having won eight constituencies in 2021, the LDF dropped five this time. In addition to retaining Haripad, the United Democratic Front (UDF) added Aroor, Alappuzha, Kuttanad, and Kayamkulam to its tally. Ambalapuzha, another CPI(M) sitting seat, went to comrade-turned-foe G. Sudhakaran, in what proved to be a humiliating blow to the party. The LDF managed to hold on only to Cherthala, Mavelikara, and Chengannur.
