Bereft of marquee stars, the events in senior category wallowed in mediocrity but juniors athletes came up with impressive performances with four of them achieving the qualifying mark for world Under-20 athletics championships in the Indian Athletics series-10 at the LNCPE Athletics Stadium here on Sunday (June 14, 2026).

Tamil Nadu’s Unwin Anand Ananthan clocked a personal best of 1:49.93 seconds to attain the qualifying mark for the World Under-20 championship. The qualifying mark for world championship was 1:51.00 set by AFI and Unwin achieved it by finishing first in the under-20 event.

Asian under-20 champion Pooja won the women’s high jump in 1.81m and attained the under-20 qualifying mark of 1.80m. K. Ambriesh cleared 2.12m in junior boys high jump and achieved the qualifying mark of 2.09m. Tanu Chaudhary too achieved the world under-20 qualification mark (1:00.75) by clocking a personal best of 59.15s in junior girls 400m hurdles.

The long jump event saw the top three jumpers cross 8.00m. P. David (NCOE, Bengaluru) sealed the win with his last jump of 8.22m. Shanavas, who held the lead briefly with 8.09m, could only touch 8.17m in his last attempt and finished second. Jithin Arjunan cleared 8.12m to finish third. In the triple jump event, Tamil Nadu’s Gailey Venister cleared 16.38m to push Vishal Bhadur, who had grabbed the lead in the fifth round (16.10) to second place. 

National camper, T.S. Manu breezed to a win in the men’s 400m race with a timing of 46.24s while Rashdeep Kaur (JSW) finished first in women’s section in 53.32s. Tamil Nadu athletes impressed as they won most of the track events in the men’s section
