DesignXathon 2026

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has launched the second edition of DesignXathon 2026, its design challenge on the theme Envision an Iconic Vehicle Gen Z and Alpha Aspire to own in 2036. Key assessment parameters will include choice of vehicle category, relevance to the lifestyle of customers, integration of sustainability, and connection between design philosophy and technology.

The Faculty of Management at South Asian University and New Delhi Institute of Management organised the International Leadership Summit 2026. The theme was Leading Through Change: Geopolitics, Technology, and Institutional Leadership. Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) organised a state-level symposium on an AI-driven mobile platform for early detection of neurodevelopmental disorders, and a national symposium on Jyotiba Phule’s bicentenary. Also, its SWAYAM Course Committee organised a SWAYAM workshop on interdisciplinary learning and digital pedagogy.

GCC School hosted a roundtable discussion in Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, on the theme Impact of New-Age Learning on Building the Future Workforce and Finance Professionals. Representatives from more than 28 colleges participated.

Mahindra University hosted the International Arbitration Confluence 2026: Law, Technology and the Changing World Order. Justice V. Kameswar Rao, Judge, High Court of Delhi, was the chief guest.

The Department of Biosciences and Department of Hospitality Management, Graphic Era Deemed University, hosted the valedictory session of BIOCOM 2026, its international conference. Ruchi Mohan Rayal, Additional Secretary of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, Government of Uttarakhand, was the chief guest.

A research report on Multilingual Education in India launched by the British Council, Cambridge University Press and Assessment, and the University of Cambridge, the U.K., highlighted that structured multilingual pedagogy improves reading comprehension and learning outcomes in English-medium government schools. 

A survey conducted by Silverline Prestige School across Delhi NCR, Meerut, Chandigarh, and Lucknow, found that 85% of students in Classes 9 to 12 are using AI tools in their education. Around 150,000 students, parents, and teachers participated in the study.

Sigma University, in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance, Vietnam, organised an International Conference on Advanced Research in Science, Technology and Management 2026. Prof. Anil Bhardwaj, Director of the Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad, was the chief guest.

IIT Roorkee and INVEST UP hosted a National Policy Workshop on Advancing Renewable Energy Policy for Uttar Pradesh on the theme Benchmarking National Missions, Leading State Frameworks and the Emerging Net Zero Economy. Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, delivered the keynote address.

Researchers at IIT Kanpur, led by Prof. Hamim Zafar, collaborated with the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, Australia, to develop a computational tool to decode cell communication in complex tissues. The findings were published in Nature Communications. Another team from IIT Kanpur, in collaboration with scientists from IISc Bangalore and the University of Lübeck, Germany, developed a laser-based predictive framework to control droplet propulsion and breakup. A paper was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Researchers from Nagaland University, in collaboration with  University of Johannesburg, South Africa, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh, and Parul University, Gujarat, found that biochar could be an affordable solution to water scarcity and soil degradation in the state’s hilly regions. The study was published in Springer Nature’s journal Discover Soil.

Angana Borah, Adrija Datta, Ashish S. Kumar, Raviraj Dave, and Udit Bhatia from IIT Gandhinagar analysed 138 Indian cities from 2003 to 2020 to show that, while urban greening helps reduce heat stress, cities require climate-responsive planning to maximise cooling benefits. The paper was published in Nature Communications.

IIAD/UDIT hosted its annual Graduate Show, Unfold 2026, to showcase the academic and creative journeys of its students. Participants included Sunil Sethi, Chairman of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI); designer Tarun Tahiliani; Vimarsh Razdan, co-founder and CEO of Underneat; Sushant Verma of rat[LAB]; documentary filmmaker Faiza Khan; art director Mainak Das; and architect Ashok B. Lall, among others. 

Galgotias University hosted Lt. Gen. K.J.S. Dhillon, former Director General of the Defence Intelligence Agency, for an interaction with students and faculty members on leadership journeys, military strategy, personal discipline, and the evolving role of India in a changing global landscape. 

Vivekanand Business School, Chembur, in collaboration with the Self Esteem Foundation for Disabled, Airoli, raised approximately ₹9 lakhs for 2025-2026 to empower individuals with disabilities. 

Appointments

The University of Liverpool, the U.K., has appointed Prof. Richard Grose as Provost for the Alembic City campus, Bengaluru. He was earlier Dean for International at Queen Mary University of London (Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry).

Galgotias University appointed Prof. Saumya Sindhwani as Provost. She was earlier Associate Dean for Advanced Management Programmes and Executive Director of the Centre for Learning and Management Practice.

AAFT School of Photography appointed photographer Latika Nath as its dean. She is a Chevening Scholar and an Oxford and Cambridge Society of India Awardee, and recipient of Karamveer Puraskar in 2019.

UNSW Sydney appointed Prof. Payyazhi Vadakkekara Jayashree as the Rector of UNSW Bengaluru. She has served as Dean and Full Professor of Management at the University of Wollongong in Dubai.

Awards 

Team AeroFyta from Chennai Institute of Technology, won the Cognizant Technoverse Hackathon 2026. Team Owlgorithms from Techno Main Salt Lake, Kolkata, was second. Team Devtronix from Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Coimbatore, was third.

Vidushee, Shravya and Shloka from Mallya Aditi International School, Bengaluru, won Monash University’s Change It Challenge in India, hosted by Nahar International School. Mumbai. Vani, Niharika and Sunehra from Podar International School, Mumbai, were the first runners-up. Thanav, Harish and Avaith from The Indian Public School, Coimbatore, were placed third.

RV College of Engineering from Bengaluru, won the 17th edition of TCS TechBytes. AGMR College of Engineering and Technology, Hubballi, came second.

Ram Passi and Vedant Ravnang, third-year students from the School of Mechatronics Engineering, Symbiosis Skills and Professional University, won the Krishi Drone theme at the e-Yantra Robotics Competition 2026, organised by IIT-Bombay.

Alyssa Goyal, Bhavya Sharma, Khushi Kumari, Prakruthi Jayapalsingh Samorekar, Shashank Agarwal, and Varsha won the first prize for their model on Reflex Arc at the Neuroanatomy Model Making Competition hosted by the Department of Anatomy at Noida International Institute of Medical Sciences Medical College and Hospital

Team Innovix from East Point College of Engineering and Technology was the winner of GCEM HACKS 4.0, a hackathon conducted by the Departments of Computer Science and Engineering and CSE (AI and ML), Gopalan College of Engineering and Management.

Mahindra University signed an MoU with Hidayatullah National Law University for collaboration on academic programmes and joint research initiatives.

ABBS School of Management signed a study-abroad agreement with ESCE International Business School, Paris, to establish a pathway for its students to pursue internationally accredited M.Sc. programmes at ESCE.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kharagpur, signed an MoU with Persistent Systems to establish an AI Innovation Lab with advanced computing and research facilities focused on responsible AI development.

IIT Ropar signed an MoU with VUI Consultancy to collaborate on AI-enabled cyber defence, digital trust, and emerging security technologies.
