The Communist Party of India (CPI) staged a protest against the increase in petrol, diesel, and commercial LPG cylinder prices at the Gandhi Bomma Centre in Chittoor on Friday (May 15, 2026).

CPI district secretary S. Nagaraju said that the rising fuel and gas prices had overburdened the middle-class and poor families, who were already struggling with the increasing cost of living.

Nagaraju said the hike in commercial LPG cylinder prices had badly affected small hotels, tea stalls, and roadside eateries. As a result, the prices of common food items such as idli, dosa, and tea has also increased, he said.

Criticising the NDA government’s “double standards” on fuel price hike, the CPI leader said that it was a betrayal of the people. The Centre, which kept the prices under control during the election period, hiked them after the polling ended. CPI activists demanded that the Centre immediately roll back the fuel and LPG price hike.
