Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday (May 11, 2026) flagged off rescue vans for identifying homeless, destitute people and shifting them to shelters.

Ms. Gupta said under the five-day campaign, homeless people will be taken to the shelter operated by Apna Ghar Ashram organisation, and they will be properly looked after. She said the number of vans will be increased after assessing the initiative for five days.

The campaign is being jointly organised by the Delhi government's Department of Social Welfare, Apna Ghar Ashram and Seva Bharti Delhi Prant.

Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh said the campaign for needy, helpless and destitute persons will be conducted across all 13 districts of the national capital from May 11 to 15.

He added that the campaign aims to rescue destitute individuals from different parts of the city and bring them to shelter homes, where arrangements will be made for their treatment, care and rehabilitation.

According to the Minister, 19 vehicles have been deployed for the rescue operation across Delhi, and more than 300 people are expected to receive assistance during the drive.
